First Post - New Proposal

At the end of last semester I wrote my first draft of my thesis statement. However since starting shooting I have dramatically changed my purpose and concept.

My thesis will now revolve around a study of an area in Sarasota called Lakewood Ranch. My focus is primarily in the domestic aspects of the area. Primarily I am drawn to this subject based on my interest in architectural photography. I also relate the experience of being in Lakewood Ranch to my previous experiences in being in a similar housing community in Glenview, IL, a town near my hometown in Illinois. My imagery will emphasize the extreme similarities and slight variations between several neighborhoods within the community, focusing on very empty, clean spaces. I do not plan on including any imagery of the residents of the area or taking any portraits; rather, I am letting the buildings speak for the community. Steering away from some of my past work's more heavily composited and manipulated forms, the images will be more straightforward and realistic but with my own alterations to enhance the haunting aura that I personally feel surrounds the area. The final product will be a series of images that speak to my interests in architectural forms, the emotive quality seen in something static, and the effect of ones surroundings on the psyche.
